But look at what it will be in just few weeks (last year, winter has began in the middle of november and never stopped until end of march. It was one of the toughest of all time)

lol ouch thats a tough picture to look at. I used to live in NY and one thing I dont miss is the sight of snow.

Sinking the lotus will probally be the best bet.
Or, once the foliage dies off on the lotus, cut it down. You can keep it in the container it is growing in (unless directly planted into the pond) and keep it moist. In a dark basement above 55 degrees is fine. I have heard of people removing the tuber and dring it out, then wrapping it in moist paper towel or peat moss in the same basement method.
