my rant on crumby product

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wont find a better filter for polishing water---And thats strictly what it is ment for-Yeah it has bio attachments that dont due jack----

Want a tank crystal clear-Use a magnum-----

I run over 15 of these things-And dont have a problem one-Also been useing the same models for over 5 years-----

But my ehiem broke setting it up-Fluvals-Dont even get me started with that garbage---

But any-to each thier own I guess.....

I agree the mag 350 is a pos. the gaskets are cheap. It worked okay as a water polisher but would clog within days and noisy as hell. I swiftly returned mine and got a quality canister filter made by eheim for the same money.

It does seem like some people do have sucess with em tho.. they must have alot of patience

It's only my opinion-so forgive me-
I could be totally wrong with what i say-
I admit that-

But it seems as if the filter is getting clogged that quickly-Tank maintence was not up to par to begin with. This would aid in being loud also.

I will agree with too many fittings and o rings.....
I had an eheim break with in the first hour of owning one...

Once again to each thier own......

I have 2 Magnum 350's and love 'em. I use them as mechanical filters. They've never disappointed me. You can use the pro kits for bio filtration but IMHO they are best used as mechanical filters and do a great job. YMMV.

I dont really like my magnum 250.

Wow its not another rant about AC. Anyway i have a few mag 350's and they don't give me any trouble. And about the biological filtration, This bacteria grows on every surface of your aquarium. Not just in the filter. I am pretty sure that the magnums directions assume that everyone is fimiliar with the nitrogen cycle. And that is just not so. In the directions the arrow that points to the basket container that they call a media basket, that is where you CAN put any media you choose like carbon, zeolite, scrubbies, bio-max, lava rock, ceramic rings, sintered glass, etc, etc. ---------Basically a filter is just a pump that moves water it is up to the user to make the most out of it by using it properly and or stocking full of the best media's.
yeah, but but with my fluval, i have eight compartments. so, i dont have to pick JUST ONE media type.

ok...
i see alot of peeps say that the have the magnums and they work fine. I didnt say they dont do the job, i just said that the materials used to do the job are crap, the way everything is set up is crap, and the price is crap.
i was blown away at the fact that they think its cool to sell this product at the price they do and say, well if you want GOOD filltration you have to spend EXTRA money for the biowheel and whatever else.
this stuff should come ALL TOGETHER!!!
so yeah, it may GET THE JOB DONE!! but at what expence. pft...crap

at that price...i dont settle for, "ok".

I think that if you buy it from drsfostersandsmith.com you know that it's the cheapest canister with enough flow to do anything. fluval does make a better one in general, but you know you weren't buying a higher end canister. the magnum is the cheapest canister period.

yeah, thats what i get for trying to save a few bucks. on a better note. the lfs that i bought it from TOOK IT BACK WITH NO QUESTIONS!!:WHOA::WHOA::WHOA:
I was really blown away!! I just told them that I wasnt happy with the filter and the asked if there was one in the store i did want . I said yes, paid the difference, and was on my way within 5 mins!!

I couldnt have done that if i made a dot com purchase.
