ever since i started this hobby,
the one thing that always bugged the crap out of me is,
all the fish they call sharks, but are nothing like a shark.
only thing ive seen fw that is even close is if you look down on a bullhead cat.
they look and swim like a shark, but thats it.
"and dont pull the "well this shark can live in fw"
you know what fish im talking about :D
ok im done, just wanted to get that off my chest :grinno:

That is exactly why common names are worthless.

You gotta admit though, nothing beats bragging about your "sharks" to a non-hobbyist. Then saying I've got a school of Bala Sharks come and watch them feed. People usually get excited and expect to see some massive school of sharks in a massive tank. Questions like "I've never heard of bala sharks before" and "you must have a massive tank to keep 4 sharks" (I have four bala sharks) and the like usually follow. Then when they get to your house and (in my case) they see 4 5"-6" Silver fish that aren't sharks and are rather skittish and, the final nail in the coffin, I drop flakes in the tank, they get disappointed, really disappointed. Its the best, I have done it to all my friends :D.

There's freshwater nurse shar...err, plecos :)

Freshwater Sawfish a predatory fish found in Australian waters. A puffer fishes nightmare .

"The Borneo River Shark is the rarest of the very scarce freshwater species of sharks and rays" info liberated from http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/fish/sharks/innews/glyphis.htm

Oh, Midnight...don't get any ideas...this is just what we don't need in our ponds :grinno:. (gonna need a bigger trap ).
