My Rare Cuties

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They look good! I saved a few to grow out myself too. Take good care of them!

Just so you know, they do have a name now ... Guianacara stergiosi. Deffinately little cuties.

Actually they may be an undescribed species. The adults don't look like G. stergiosi at all. I'm very interested in following the developmental process to see how the later bar/spot/blotch changes.

G. sp. "Rio Caroni" (parents of Honda's fish)

G. stergiosi (a breeding group I had last year)

Well they shouldn't be called sp. "Rio Caroni" then, since that was the offical designation of stergiosi before it got it's scientific name!!! *lol*

LOL yeah I got them from Ken and we don't know what to call them.

I actually bought my G. stergiosi as "Rio Caroni", not long after they described the three new species. They all look so similar though.

Do they show a stripe or spot when stressed?? Deffinately undescribed atm, I'd call them affin. cuyunii based on the facial stripe and black lappets.

Almost never (even when stressed), although two in the group consistently showed a lateral bar/spot. The head shape is also quite unique...

I wonder if the bar/spot thing is a sign of dominance. The biggest one of the juvies I'm keeping already lost the spot. If you look at Honda's pictures, one of them also lost the spot. I don't think any other Guianacara species should lost the spot so early.

Was it a thin bar or thick? The head shape reminds me of the true geayi but the coloration is way off.

Nice, whatever then end up being! LOL

If it was thin, I'd prepose calling them affin cuyunii then ... the black lappets and facial bars match, and cuyunii has the thin midlateral bar. The head shape is off for them, but we can't call them sp. "Rio Caroni" though due to the stergiosi (especially since Rio Caroni is still their common name).
