My ray will be in late next week!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If this is unkind I cannot apologize, but you are trying to run before you learn to walk, trying to juggle before you can bounce 1 ball.

Choose one of those fish ( the ray?) and leave the other 2 at the store. Get it happy and healthy before you even think about adding other species, especially competitive species like gars and aros

It's not unkind.Tons and tons of people have those group of fish together without any problems. Did they Get a ray and then everything else weeks or months later? I doubt it. But the tank is meant for the ray so I want to do what is best for the ray 1st and everything else will come second.

How long you been keeping fish? Advanced fish not community fish,

It's not luck, it's just doing it right.
Very true this is why you need a fully cycled tank. If your tank is not ready you will loose your fish no matter what you try to do, people are just trying to show you what the chances are of the ray living with the way you are describing everything, read some of the stickies in the ray forum.

I've read all the stickies over and over again. I have no intentions of putting a ray in the tank until the tank is fully ready. I've spent a ton of money and hours of researching to try and make the tank perfect. This topic was to see if the tank has started cycling. I know it's going to take 4-6 weeks to be complete. The fish I have in there now starting the cycle will go back to the fish store once everything is ready.

I brought some water into the fish store today, they said I have small amounts of ammonia and it should spike in the next week. They said it's slowly starting, but it would take 6 weeks to be done. They are going to keep the ray until the tank is ready. At least then I'll be able to see the ray and make sure it's healthy. I'd much rather do that then have to order one of the internet without seeing it.

I would ask some friends that have some cycled media, or even the LFS if you could buy some cycled media and add it to your own tanks filtration. I have transferred cycled filters to a new tank befor and just added fish...in fact, i do it all the time.. so if you can get enough cycled media, its basically the same thing.

Your not off to a great start right now...... stingray will be here anyday, tank not yet cycled, no experience with advanced fish, ect..... BUT, you are on a great site with some very knowledgeable people, so at least you have that going for ya..... good luck, keep us posted, and ask questions.
