My RD thread

Ok i didnt really mean to say it in that way, but whatever.

I care for my animals and i will do what i can, and its the same treatment i would expect someone to do for me. Its not because they are animals, its just that i think the natural flow of life and death should go on uniterrupted. I would never ask anyone to pay a million dollars for my hospital bills or for someone to lay down their life for me. Im not that important, just let me die.

It has nothing to do with what each creature is. I beleive all life is equally valuable, not that some are important and some arent. Hope that clears it up at least a bit, not asking you to agree with it. Its just how i view the cycle of life.

And death is a part of life... Its my belief that everything carries on and death moves you to a better place.

Let's relax everybody. Logi, have you considered a bigger tank? I've had fish that are pretty crazy in a 125 act totally different in a bigger tank.

I'm not saying that a 125 would make your RD into a perfect community fish, but he seems kinda big. I don't think anything is gonna make it in a 75 gallon tank with him.

Not trying to jump on the attack train but please reconsider how you view your fish as they are captive specimens. Yes death is a natural part of life however we keep these fish in our homes which to an extent is quite unnatural. I think I speak for most people here when I say that we bear full responsibility in caring for our fish to the best of our abilities because we have chosen for our own enjoyment to bring these animals into our homes. I spent around $100 in the last few months to nurse a sick GT back to health and find/make foods it would eat being that it is wild caught. The fish only cost $50 so I could have let it die and buy a new one for less but because I chose to bring a wild fish into my house it is my responsibility to provide the animal the best care that I can reasonably provide. A responsible fish keeper will always provide at least the minimum but preferably the absolute best conditions they can for the fish they keep. There is a major difference between being a fish keeper and a fish "haver". Best of luck with your animals and I hope you decide to give them the best life they can have.

I would like to keep this thread as it is supposed to be. However, i will start a thread explaining my ideals in another section, and link it here... I feel like a being misunderstood a bit, and im partially to blame because i suck at explaining...

Yeah this seems to be the general opinion...

I absolutely agree....... it means stress for any fish that lives with a red devil.. and the red devil does not like visitors to his domain.. so it would be stressful to him until he ended the problem. You can almost train a red devil.. given the right environment he becomes king of his castle and the only one he respects is his handler.. you

....lol no guarantee any male Amph will respect his handler though haha. I don't consider getting bit and attacked every time we put our hands in the tank "respect" :(

He has started trying to bite now. I have to just push him to the side. He is also esting very well now, between 8 and 18 quarter-inch pellets a day... Its about $5 a month for food for him based on the track he is on right now. His stomach is filling out a bit more as well.

Not killed anything yet. I have noticed a bit of chasing but its only if the other fish swim right in front of his nose.

He has also started sliding chunks of slate around and rolled ove a 6" circular-ish rock. And he is taking the floating peice of driftwood for joyrides.

Also installing a sump this week. Made myself. Not out of glass as i cant cut it here, but still should work. Using a PVC HOB homeade overflow as i, again, cant (and dont want to) drill the tank. For now using the canister to bring water back up to the tank but im going to get about a 700gph pump this summer when i have some money again. Also i put in a sponge filter to get some extra crap and a few airstones for surface movement.

For sump media i think im going to use broken clay pots for biological media as well as some plastic bio balls and ceramic chucks... Sound ok?
