Still think its wrong to have a fish like that in a ten gallon for so long. I mean if he was growing it out from 1/2" then sure but it looks bigger than that if you ask me.
None the less you're right Quinn.

He was only in the ten from when he was 2 inches to when he was 3.

I aggree with "Eatsomekiwis". Cichlidinsomaniac propably knows a lots more than you about cichlids. You cant tell the sex of the fish by thinking that female should have laid eggs, so dont try to be a smart ass. You can sex Midas/RD by looking at the dorsal fin, male dorsal fins are usually sharper, also the males get bigger humps. The only ways to sex 100% is to vent it or look at a pair spawning.

+I think it just shows that you don't know ANYTHING about cichlids by putting your midas in a 10g tank for 5 months.
So dont try to be a smart as*

haha i already knew all of the things you just said. thanks for repeating though, keeps me on top of my game.:)

You're an idiot. First you state you can sex them by "You can sex Midas/RD by looking at the dorsal fin, male dorsal fins are usually sharper, also the males get bigger humps."

Then you say "The only ways to sex 100% is to vent it or look at a pair spawning."

Can you not contradict yourself? I'm pretty sure a real Devil doesn't get a hump. I've had many male Devils without a hump. And last time I checked, both my male and female Midas have pointed fins, my female actually has quite the set of trailers on her. Get your stories straight lol.
real devils can get humps http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201309 and the fish in question is obviously a midas/rd, there was no need to call him an idiot...jakob said you can sex them by looking at the hump or longer pointy dorsal fin which a lot of the time can hold true notice he said the only way to sex 100% is to vent them or observe them breeding

id bet you some money his cichlid knowledge is better than yours and cichlidinsomniacs.

it was his first fish hes EVER had..thats why he had it in a ten because he knew nothing about the hobby at the time...everyone has to start somewhere.
how much you want to bet?:naughty:

55 is still too small for a RD/Midas
And only true way to sex is vent or see spawing that is correct, ive seen males with no humps and females with large humps...as far as fins, its only an indicator esp when young but as they grow they tend to fill out and taper to a point.

Seeings how males and females can and usually do reach 12" within their first year-year and a half depending on diet, water quality, and tank size its cruel to have one in a 55 or 10....

NICE RD! Love red devils

This RD was purchased in November at 1.5"

P1030490.jpg

P1030497.jpg

P1030525.jpg

it grew to a size of 3.5" within a month on good diet and water quality
It was then moved to a 55" until in January it was placed in a 220

It is 6.5" now...5" in 3 months is what quality rearing will do for you...
