The very first cichlid that caught my attention was the red texas :WHOA: and almost a year later I finally have some red texas :grinno:, a few green texas and 1 regular texas. Definitely enough to start my breeding project :grinno: :grinno:. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics and scratched tanks!!

Fading male, unconfirmed fertility. Im not too fond of his face but I love his color and redness.

Unfaded fertile male. Hes bulky and chunky. A monster in the making.

Fading female that I just picked up today. She is very sexy.

Last week I put Tweety and my unfaded male in a divided 75 but there wasnt too much love between the two. So on 12/15 I added another divider and tossed in a female green texas. Almost immediately the male and the green texas starting showing interest in each other. On 12/16 I removed Tweety back to my 135 and removed their barrier. Today I came home from work and found eggs in the flowerpot! Although Id like him to be paired with another red texas, Im just itching to get some RT fry and Id like to confirm his fertility myself. And now for the important stuff, PICS!

its a nice start . i would try breeding some of those rts with a deep red parrot. to help bring out the red more instead of having yellowish orange rts.

Great! Keep us posted, please

I would if there were actually some out there. Even deep orange KKP's are hard to find and expensive.

I will do! Hows your texas x BP spawn?

thats true. ive seen some nice bps at my petco but they looked painted some i never bought em they were the only bps i ever seen that were ruby red.

i dont mean to derail your thread but ive started a calico con project . maybe one day we can make a trade some rts for some calicoes.

Actually...the last female red texas is actually a male. I hope hes fertile cause hes my new fave.

Tweety's face is kinda hilarious. The yellow could get darker...

Good luck on your project but I already picked up 3 lightly marked calico cons. I just have to wait for the males to catch up to the female.

Yea she's a butterhead. Lol.

Quick update, things don't look good about 10% of the eggs are growing fungus and the mom isn't guarding the pot as much.

It's ok that no one is interested. I''ll just use this as a journal for myself :)

Mom isn't fanning the eggs or picking out the fungused eggs. Looks like 25% of the eggs have fungus.
