so just came back home and the smell has gone down a bit but still there, using fabreeze, im thinking its pockets of gas because when i poured the water in i tired not to stir the substrate (black gravel) but prolly moved some around..hopefully i can get rid of it somehow

Aerobic bacteria = smells OK to smells good. Anaerobic bacteria = smells awful!! Time for a gravel vac, filter cleaning, and water changes!

This rarely happens in a properly maintained tank with enough beneficial bacteria!

I can't help asking... Do you have a plan B for these fish? 55g seems a tad small for even ONE of these, and I can't imagine them getting along for any length of time.

Thats what i was thinking. I have noticed smells for poorly taken care of tanks and overstocked tanks. These fish are going to get much larger, might want to think of an upgrade.

Didn't this thread have a different name yesterday?

Kind of sounds like the smell in an old canister that wasn't cleaned out, and went over. Have you done anything that would kill off your bacteria in your filter? That could get it stinking...

the only new thing i did was the water change

ps- the smell has gone down totally i guess it was gas pockets

you might in the wrong hobby, I cant begin to tell you of days I would open my canister filter and OH SNAP!!!!! or closing down a tank and waiting to long to finish.

I bet its your hamper. Do some laundry

really vinegar!?!?!??!?!
i thoiught we were tryin to take care of the smell problem!!!!

go ahead, try it.

next time you're going to leave the house for several hours pour some vinegar in some plates and put those plates around the room. leave the house for a couple hours. come back, toss out all the vinegar and see if that helped.

vinegar does some awesome things. You're not from the south i suppose? :D

edit- thought you were OP, nvm.
