I recently tooka 55g off a friend. had a few convicts and a Red Devil. I bought a couple other fish (oscar, Jack, and needlenose) planning on buying a 75 in a couple months (and a 125 long within a year).

anyway, enough about me. my roommate saw my aquarium. I can't have something he doesn't have, so he says "my aquarium is gonna be better than yours" goes out buys a 55 starter kit, cycles it (I'll give him that), and eventually buys: three oscars, two red devils, two needlefish, two guarmes (sp?), two jack dempseys, five chinese algae eaters, two plecos (not sure what kind), and I THINK that's it. He does have two penguin 350 biowheels filtering that mess, and he checks his water regularly, I'll give him that. I keep telling him he needs to start thinking about buying more and bigger aquariums my question for anyone who knows better than me: how many/how big should he get with this list of fish?

Pretty soon his gourami's, algae eaters , needlefish and a few others will all be dead. He's got a great setup!

i think his head needs to shrink before his tanks can grow.

yeah, its kinda ironic that he got them to show me up. I bought my baby oscar, he goes out and buys three. I bought a jack, he buys two. I bought a needlefish, he buys two.

he's already wondering why his (3) oscars aren't growing as fast as mine, and why one RD is growing and the other isn't. I should be enjoying his arrogant failure, but hate to see the fish die. hopefully I can get that 125 in time to take a nice albino oscar, and a healthy jack, off his hands

Eventually he'll probably only have a handful of fish, in a crowded 55 gallon. Your friend sure showed you!

the bio load from 2 bigger oscars will be enough to wipe everything out...

he needs to get a 150gal+ (bigger being better) ASAP

i agree with dbcb314-both of you need to rethink your stock lists and get larger tanks ( you stated you will in the future-a 120 gallon may not be big enough for what you already have) or get rid of some fish. he needs over 240 gallons or needs to just thin his stock and in the mean time research the needs of what he does have. what a mess! lol

but instead of upgrading his tank and filtration im betting he loses most of what he has by then.

You can probably both get by with a 75 for the single red devil you have left after it kills everything else...
