Your roomate should have learned about fish, BEFORE geting any.

i agree with dbcb314-both of you need to rethink your stock lists and get larger tanks ( you stated you will in the future-a 120 gallon may not be big enough for what you already have) or get rid of some fish. he needs over 240 gallons or needs to just thin his stock and in the mean time research the needs of what he does have. what a mess! lol

but instead of upgrading his tank and filtration im betting he loses most of what he has by then.
When did I say I was going to get rid of my other aquariums? Never!. a 55, 75, and 125long will be plenty for what I have; I appreciate your opinion, though. Thanks.

GOOD LOOKIN OUT!

You can probably both get by with a 75 for the single red devil you have left after it kills everything else...
That red devil has been in this 55 with BREEDING convicts for about 6-8 years. Hasn't killed a fish YET. He's just now hitting about 6 inches, which is slow growth, but like I said, I recently took the set up off a friend's hands. they're fine. three juvenile fish in there are fine for another month or so. I took cramped fish off someone's hands and am taking hell for it. WTF?

thanks for your opinions, guys. every situation is different.

Your roommate sounds like my ex friend. Expect, my ex friend couldn't afford to get a 55g. I hate it when ppl compete with me, and get mad if I have something nicer than them. I, personally, think someone should get fish bc they want to and have a passion for the hobby, not bc someone else has a bigger tank or more fish. Sounds to me you are thinking ahead with larger size tanks as your fishes grows..I doubt your roommate has planned any of that or even thought about it. How about some pictures when you get your bigger tanks too? :)

Update!

As of last thursday (I've been out of town), here's what's left: Three Os, two RD's, two JD's, the needlefish and a Pleco.

The smaller RD (about 3") is beginning to get quite aggressive toward the JD's (both female). the more submissive JD and the smaller O are next to go, that's where my money would be if I were betting anyway.

Just as predicted, the fish are going to narrow it down to a reasonable stocking list. He said if his RDs kill any of the oscars, he'll just kill the RDs. so, I predict a 55 way overstocked with two albino and one tiger O. maybe one of the JD's will survive that long.

wow, so he's gonna kill his RD's for just doing what comes normal to them? sounds like a standup guy. you should tell him to take them back because his RD will continue to kill
