My house
I just came home to a note on the fridge from my roommate asking me to take care of his puffers for a week while he is gone. My knowledge of these fish is as follows:

They are brackish water fish.

They puff up when agitated.

They eat snails.

Their stomachs get dark when they are stressed.

Is there anything else I should know about these fish?

I am especially worried about this venture because his tank is a mess, IMO overstocked, and when I went to check on it after I found the note there was one dead Oto cat already.

He has two of them in a ten gallon tank. Both of the fish are very dark in the belly, one of them is almost completely black. They are housed with probably five neon tetra's and (now...:() two Oto cats.

Any help would be VERY appreciated.

Well if they are dwarf puffers. Look them up for care. I don't remember what there feed is lol. And do a water change this week. But no more then 20-30% of the tank. And feed a little less then what he feeds if you think its too much. Also keep a eye on the lil guys. Good luck! Also this is my 2cents

What type of puffer is it? Can you get pics.

The only puffers that can be housed in a 10gallon is dwarf puffers, but they arent brackish. Pics would be very helpful with helping you

I forgot to mention that if they are dwarf puffers they aren't brackish.

If you can't post pic give a very through description(size, color, etc.)

Thats a green spotted puffer I beleive. He is brackish. So does he have a hydrometer to check salinity?

I just checked his supplies...no hydrometer.

The only thing I saw other than food was a container of fresh water salt.

No test strips either which is unfortunate because I only have enough to last me through Sunday when my LFS may or may not be open.

Well he is only gone for a week. Maybe be under feed a little and let him do change water when he gets back

Green spotted puffer, brackish, can get to 4-6". Easy mostly anything, krill, flake, feeder fish, soft pellets, snails. Tank looks really clean btw
