my senegalus jump of the tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry for the loss.

This is a good argument for a drilled tank vs. the over the side filters! Sigh wish they could design better lids. I lost an arrowana (just a baby but still) because of the damn opening for the filter. found his lil body about 5 feet from the tank.

Any of us that have kept bichirs for any length of time have at one time or another had this happen! It's a real bummer! They are indeed the world's best escape artists. They seem to really try to escape when first arriving or when moved from one tank to another. I was lucky enough to find one that had been out for probably 6-8 hours, but put him back in the tank and swished him around, trying to get a water flow over his gills artificially. Surprisingly it worked. Since then I always put them back in the water even when they seem dry to the touch! Sorry for your loss!

tried putting him pack in the tank, didn't seem to work, but i didn't swish him around like you did, is it possible i bury him alive

i had an albino which i kept in my tank with no lid at all.
he never jumped out o_O.
however, i took off the bottom part of the filter, and he swam up the tube and died.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. The other day I sold my Aro and upon moving it I must have stressed my bichir and it too jumped out! I cought it in time though but that is the first time I have ever had a fish jump out of the tank! I have had my Arowanna leap out and back in but never on the floor though!~ It was pretty scary.
