my shark tank (a port jackson shark atm) + a question !!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yes yes, that was a lot of reading, and i did research for the PJ like i already told there is coming fine sand and a few rocks are going to move out so i can make a small cave, on this picture you cant see it bcus i did it like 1 day after i made the picture, but i already made a cave where he is resting in at mid-day ;) about the food it is going well also, now i gave him some molluscs at summer it are going 2 be life shrimps that i catch at the sea here also it will be small crabs (atm it are only the big ones here, at summer there will be smaller ones)

about the returning well here is a website of where i get it from: http://www.dejongmarinelife.nl/ it is the biggest import/export company in the whole of europe, like there have been told to me, the owner of it all who i got the PJ from said it might become to big if it happens you can bring it back to me without problems ( he really likes this actually because if he gets the big shark back he can make a lot of money on selling it).. well you can see at the website where he keeps the sharks etc..

btw the budget is no problem, i can run it for life,

also i'll tell you my dad has like 25 years experience with saltwater aquariums/sharks/fishes so he also knows a lot about it ;)

i hope you now get a bit of the feeling i really care about the sharks life and i do know what i'm doing..

Well I know you are new, so my rant may have come off a bit edgy, but trust me, others can attest to this as well - that was me being patient. LOL. I was not trying to tell you that you did not know what you were doing, but if I had to be honest, considering the life of the thread thus far, it seemed like you were reachin for knowledge - which is good, but highlights the fact that you might not know as much as preferred with this particular species. But all in all, thats besides the point, you have the shark now, so the goal is to keep it healthy and happy right?? Right.
It's good that you have added smoother substrates and provided shelter for the pup, well done. And I suppose if you are close to that owner and you know for a fact he can house it, and welcomes large species back, than I guess he is the exception to the rule, and a good ally to keep. I know I can come off a bit harsh sometimes, so thanks for suckin it down and not getting all butt hurt like some noobs do, lol. I agree that you seem passionate, which is good, and I hope you will continue asking questions if you need answers.
My only concern is for the shark, so if I offend you at times, try not to take it personally as I would do the same to a friend or family member if I felt it needed to be said. Do have a question though - what does your father do exactly to give him so much claimed experience? Just curious.

well i actually really liked it there was somebody who gave me that much information about the PJ :)

and my dad builds aquariums also for the company i gave the link of ;) also he builds large aquariums for zoo's, so he is often being contacted by people if there is something with their aquarium, he also have an aquarium here in the house haha :) but what he has is more a coral reef, its an aquarium of 1 M³ filled with coral and 1 zebrasoma of like 10 years old ;p

OH edit: wanted to ask this: how much does it eats on average lol :\ im giving him atm 3-4 molluscs of like an inch in diameter..

As for food amount - for juvenile benthic sharks like your PJ - you want to feed it less than 5-10% of total body weight per week. Adults only need about 2-3% per week.

This means for a heterodontid of just 12 inches(30 cm) you should only be feeding it about 1 oz (28 grams) of food or less per week.

BTW- it's much better to feed it several small meals per week than just 2 or 3 large meals per week.

aah ok.. i already gave him ± that amount now i know it for sure :)

well here you have some: ( its a bit yellow because the HQI lamp was broken so there are just some normall aquarium lights above it)

another small question: can a black banded bamboo shark live together with the port jackson? i already gained lost of information about the bamboo shark;\ but ofcourse you cant find somewhere with who the port jackson can live together... the water temp. is in the same range so does the PH and salt so does anyone knows it?

you dont even have enough room for a grown port jackson shark so why are you trying to add more? I have never even had a saltwater tank before but i read stuff on how to take care of sharks and other fish, and somehow i know this and you dont
