That heater is a spit in the bucket on the power bill. Nothing compared to the pool in the back yard lol. I like it in there for a couple of reasons. One being turtles are cold blooded animals, warmer temps = more activity and slightly faster growth. Also, it helps the tropical little fish that are in there with him stay comfortable. All the guppies in there are prego females. Wanting them to give birth to in house dinner service!

im sure you know what your in for. lol but when your turtle gets to about 25 30 pounds your gonna be like:swear: "why did i make him grow faster!"
if your not worried about the power bill than more power to you (literally) lol just dont want to see another MFK'r on here posting his entire hobby in the marketplace because "its getting too expensive" but i think its safe to say your an addict much like myself. and there is no rehab for us.

good idea with providing your own food source but eventually you will need to get a feeder tank to breed food for him cuz he will eat your females. and they will probably eat their babies before he could ever catch them. id say add some java moss but he would tear it up.

That should last a year or two. You'll find out that heaters aren't a good option when he starts to chew on everything, unless you go for a sump. It's a good choice to go bb too, I've witness mine eat gravel, which is probably not terribly harmful as long as it fits out the other end, but would be worried about sand impaction.

My tip for when he's still small and in "normal" tanks is if you use heaters or submersible filters is to put plastic tubing on the power cords so he doesn't electrocute himself. Feel free to pm me for any tips or advice for what you're getting yourself in to

that is not a bad idea though. He will not have the heater for long though. not really needed in my area.

Here is pics of Damian from this morning. He is about double the size and weight from when I first got him. I will take a pic next to a nickel like I did last time when I get home. Look at his fat little neck hehe.

Nice! my little guy has finally stopped shedding every 30 seconds lol. Urs hunting yet?

Keep an eye on him for internal parasites too. All 3 of the ones I have owned have ended up with tape worms. Once they get big its cheaper to feed them raw chicken and fish, and thats where they got it im sure. a 10lb hungry snapper can go through a bag of pellets like no other...and a 10lb snapper is just getting started lol. When they get big their appetite is literally insatiable.

Awesome little guy by the way, hes gonna be a holy terror in no time!

Hes gotta be having a ball in there

OMG! Cool, cool, cool! Been thinking about dwarf musk turtles myself.
