How do you know this was the momma .. holy smokes that is a huge turtle.. do you have pond in your yard......... i cannot believe the size of it..could it be the Daddy??? Just incredible.. hope she or he went free.........
 
that is a tottally wrong way to pixck it up..with her weight you can guess what picking her up like that is doing to her spine..

hopefully not..but it is sheer nonsense to pick a turtle up like that..so easy to grab them by the carapace, behind...even her hind feet will help you getting purchase...

poor turtle should have photo of it in the wild and released it.... i wont even comment on picking it up the way you did
 
sorry no need to flame me the turtle went free have no place to put it and why would i keep such a thing im holding it like that because thats the way the books i read and the research i did told me to hold it i thought it would be fine according to the books i read i would never have hold it like that if i knew it could get hurt i guess i should say sorry to the poor turtle and not you guys thanks for telling me though at least now i wont hurt any more turtles
