I decided to go planted after doing extensive reading over on Simply and other sites. I also talked with a couple of Simply members about my ideas and while I know it will be labor intensive, I think the fish will be happier with an aqua scape. I know so far that the old adage that discus are shy does not appear to be the case in my tank. They have plenty of places to hide so I guess they don't feel the need to.

I've found that discus are not shy at all if they are healthy, and use to you. I have about a dozen or so in different tanks that peck at my fingers and arms during tank vacs. Most will eat from my fingers, including my wilds. They are very aware of their surroundings, and they know who feeds them.

Wow, lucky you - must be exciting to get those beauties in the mail and established in their surroundings. Best of luck.

my advice as ex-discus keeper and conterder of shows with my fisch . water changers lot's of plant's (so they get the real nature so no stress. good food with very very much change and vitament's

a big tank and lot's of discus a group of 10-15 discus is perfect.the color wil be better as they compete to be the be the highest on the chain of command.

Thanks guys. Hillbilly, it sure doesn't take them long to know who holds the food, does it! Anyone else can go look at the tank and they just sort of keep doing what they are doing, but if I go near they are all at the front wagging their tales.

Good job "Snoopy"

In Holland we only had planted tanks to grow our Discus, nobody wants a BB tank as show tank in his/her living room.

Clean water is the key, planted tank, more water changes, but it can be done,

Hans

I've found discus shyness to be hit or miss. I have groups that rip my arm hair out when i'm in the tank and some I have to bait with bloodworm, hide and sneak up on to inspect before I start their service. If i didn't I would never see them lol.

I've seen really outgoing groups become shy when relocated and vice versa.

For real it's a total crap shoot.
