is it ok to feed my discus frozen food at least once a day daily? I mix days with frozen brine & bloodworms, & as a treat throw in a beefheart cube 1st.

Is that all you are feeding them? FBW and FBS mixed with Beefheart Cubes? If so that is why your growth is slowed. Look into making your own Burger Mix like Hans makes, or try a seafood mix. IME, making your own mixes is best for growth.

I keep on hand Hans mix and my own seafood mix.

Mixes are good, but messy. If you want to see some fast growth without the mess, it's hard to beat live California Blackworms. My Discus swear by them! :D Throw them in, and forget about them. The fish do the rest. No overfeeding worries either. Since they are aquatic creatures, they stay alive in the tank until eaten. That's why there's no mess. They also put adult Discus in the breeding mood.

Hillbilly,

black worms can be a good food, as long as you rinse, rinse, rinse and rinse them, did I say to rinse them?? If a customer has trouble with our Discus, 99% of them are feeding black worms.

I stay far, far away from them,

Hans

You're right. They will get slimy if you don't rinse them. It would never be a good idea to let slime, waste, or whatever build up in them and feed them to fish. Yuck! One can only imagine all the unhealthy bacteria slimy, dirty worms would create. I've developed a system so that I can rinse about 2lbs. at a time, and keep them clean and wiggling like crazy. Of course it helps a lot to get healthy worms at the start. I get really good ones from Dan at Aquatic Foods.
