my stingray died:-(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey fishlove send me a few

Unless the water temp went above 92 and without adequate surface movement I doubt it was the chiller. I do not mean to be rude but "getting your water tested" at this point suggets 2 things to me 1) why don't you have test kits and know to test the second you saw something was wrong 2) a lack of understanding ofthe basic nitrogen cycle which leads to fish deaths.

I think it would be good to post up ome basic info.

Ph of tap water
Nitrate of tap water
Size of tank
What filtration you run
Water change regime
If dechlorinator used

Bit late now but ph, nitrite, ammonia and nitrate in tank

How is te tank aerated....this does not mean bubbles in water but how is the water surface agitated? In ht climates the surface needs to be really rippling.

Hope this helps, do nt mean to be harsh

Harsh or not thanks for the info. I have a sump running along with a fx5. The only fish that lived was the gourami and that was the only fish that didnt eat the talapia. This was the first time i have fed them talapia. Could that have done something and yes it was staight from the fresh fish counter.

Oic. Wondering why ban such common fish. Thats the reason i caught 5 motoro rays in my place reservoir. Range from 5inch to 10inch. Sold to ray keeper at $20 onwards. Tks for the info.

That's why they're banned, They do actually have an impact on the ecosystems in those rivers in lakes, And saying that you sold a fish illegally on a website full of feds that monitor these things isn't a very good idea. Plus MFK prohibits such acts.

A Gourami has a labyrinth which means it can breath air, this means that it comes from often poor quality and oxygen deprived waters, they can withstand many water conditions that normal fish cannot.

Might be worth asking the fish counter if the tilapia are treated with sulphites...could be your answer. Something that I learned about this week.:WHOA:

Yeah i hate how ca doesent allow rays. I aquired mine when i purchased my tank and i wont be getting another one but rays are a awesome animal. If they ever do become legal ill be th fist in line to get one.lol

Where do you come up with the $25,000 figure? My research suggests that there is a civil penalty from $500 to $10,000 and a criminal penalty of six months in county jail or a $1,000 fine.

Edit: The relevant law seems to be California FIsh and Game Code Section 2125.
