Synodontis Ocellifer

Scientific Name: Synodontis ocellerifer
Recommended Aquarium: 75+ Gallons
Approx. Adult Size: 8 inches
Temperament: Peaceful
Ease of Care: Easy
Diet: Omnivore
Native Waters: Africa - Senegal

First described by Boulenger in 1900. It is found in the Senegal and Chad regions of Africa. It can make a good scavenger for an African Cichlid aquarium, though it may not tolerate other Synodontis cats. A silver gray body with multiple small black dots and a forked tail, the Ocellifer will mostly be active at night or when food is added to the aquarium. It needs to be treated as a smooth skin catfish when treating for parasite infestations. It is not unusual to find this fish hovering “upside-down” inside of a cave since many Synodontis behave this way. Their diet should include meaty foods (blood worms) and some vegetable based sinking pellets. If properly maintained, the Ocellifer can live for many years.

Approximate arrival size for Arrival Size for Synodontis Multipunctatus: 1.5 to 3 inches; Large 4 to 5 inches
