should be good after one year
As for bio balls, I don't care for them.
I like natural filtration (live rock).
Skimmer is a must my friend, there are lots of good external ones you can get
I would look into it..
Gotta keep nitrAtes at less than 5 ppm at all times..
PH stable (turn fuge/sump lights on when tank lights off)light on water at all times helps stabilize the ph of your tank.
MAG CAL & ALK need to be in harmony or you will not get good growth on any stony's.
MAG 1250 -1350
CAL 400-420
ALK 8-10
is reef heaven...

What's a good skimmer brand that you would recommend?

asm and coralife 125s n 250s r good skimmers too

For hair algae, Before you can do permanent removeal you need to find the source.
So what is your light set up
How's your bio-load?
flow ?
filtration also??

To cure pull rock and scrub with tank water and a brush would be the best way
To stay gone make sure you don't "FEED" the algae..
If you have alot of Hair algae it will give you low phos.. readings on a test kit because it actually eats the phosphates
To stay gone get a tang, emerald crabs, lawnmower blenny, and run phosphate media in a phos reactor.

can phosphate media be put in a power filter
yes phos guard (the white pebble stuff) can in a canister filter..
if thae what your talking about
It can go in a bag or bottom of a filter sock too.
Anything that holds the material (sock or bag) wil work.
