My third Aimara - In a comm tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fully understood your situation there bro. :)

Was hoping some of the "old guards" can still maintain some order in the tank but I am pretty sure one day, the Aimara will outgrow the red aro. :(

Nonetheless, as time comes there will probably be some fishes shifting out to make space and balance the harmony within the tank.

Pictures of the stable Aimara. He is actually the most active of the hoplias lot - swimming around the tank. Possibly a good sign of not having any marked territory as the smallest guy inside.

Those psycho killer eyes - LOL!

Will revisit and update this thread perhaps in a month or so with new pictures to show their development - keeping within the "Characins" part - will include the dorado as well.

If your aimara outgrew the aro, that'd be years from now. He looks good, and glad to hear he's active for you. But I do think the fish you have will make this tank overstocked once they all get larger.

There is probably a big upgrade in tank space for me next year - regardless whether the fishes are outgrowing the tank.

Been looking around for some 1000 gal tanks but couldn't find the time to make some arrangements to shift out the fishes, current tanks and put them all into together. :)

Red, I don't know which part of the world you are in but here in china, it's not that costly to have one custom made. The premade 1000gs don't come cheap. I got a 4m x 1.2m x 1m with custom filtration and sump etc all done and quoted for around 20k rmb which is just over 3k usd. Obviously it doesn't include all the filtration materials and other things but I think its pretty cheap as fish cost as much as such a monster tank..

Fully agreed. :)

Actually I am looking at 2 (fairly new) huge tanks at the moment.

One is a custom FGT with thick and wide viewing glass - 10 x 4 x 3 (one foot inside partition for filtration) - cost about USD 1800.

Another is a 8 x 3 x 3 (6 months old) with nice quality wood cabinet.

My main headache is the switch over. As both my 4 x 4 x 2.5 and 6 x 3 x 2 are occupying my "fish area" in the garden. :(

Unless I built a pergola (or covered) area another part of my garden; any of the tanks above will need to move into the current area and I will need to shift at least one of the tanks out.

That will take some time, logistic and labour planning.

I'm kind of in a similar predicament as you... The tanks I have up are old and in the place where I would place the new monster setup at.. It is definitely a pain in the ass to make the switcheroo go down. I was contemplating holding my fish at a friends monster tank but I think it would be a huge huge headache to net them back out as it would be in a really big tank.. And the transition may end up killing a fish or two. Take your time and plan properly my friend. :)

Trust me bro - me and wife had measured again and again the space need to fit in a big tank. LOL!

Anyway, we will pay a visit to the LFS that is selling the 10 footer tomorrow as they are moving out soon and the tank maybe snapped up by someone else. Hope to work something out with them.
