My thorichthys update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Meeki can get big and male can reach 8 inch. What,s fish is above the Meeki in the 6 pic down.

The fish was way too thick. The mouth wasn't shaped like any thorichthys. It was very wide too, wide like a robertsoni. There wasn't any red in the mouth, or gill area.
I've kept a lot of meeki over the years, and none looked even close. I wish I had better pics.

I've never been a fan of Firemouths, but yours look cool. Like that hybrid

Yup, that thing was ugly.
Total change of subject, but where did you get those astyanax from.I have wanted a nice shoal of those for years. You never see them for sale in the UK. I've seen them on the odd occasion available to order but a decent shoal would cost a fortune.

I got them from the same LFS as that meeki hybrid-That Pet Place in Lancaster, PA. I got them probably about 5 years ago. I asked if they would ever get them again, and they told me no. I need at least one more to disperse their aggression. I have 5 now, and one is really getting beat up or more like scales have been eaten. They are also really shredding the larger cichlid fins. This pic is the one that is getting picked on.
I've seen Jeff Rapps carry other astyanax species, but not in a long time.
I have been debating if I should keep them or not, because of the damage to the cichlids. I probably will keep them, because they are so hard to find. The biggest is 7" too.

Here are some pics. They are really active and fast, so pics are hard to get.
I would love to breed them. I think I have enough males and females. But I don't know how, and even if I did the eggs would get eaten. I may have to get them their own tank to spawn.

They barely sell thorich here in california, in 20 years of LFS i've only seen Firemouths. I like the kind you guys have.
