My Tigrinus thread

Aro and atf can do fine with each other as long as u provide enuf space to swim around. Mine were in a 600 gal prior to the 1500 gal they are in now. I have seen the atf take near swipes at the aro but im not sure if its all for show or territory. Nothing serious or damage evident. As far as the tig is concerned all in time. Keep him in a calm and non aggressive tank and he will flourish! Mine is over 2 ft. One thing about them they dont tolerate other shovelnose cats well especially in their territory. They will do their head shaking and sometimes snap at the intruders! I have mine with a 17" piariba and when they were in the 600 gal they barely would cross paths or thw tig got upset. Now in the big tank i haven't noticed any issues and they have been near each other many times. Perhaps new environment has caused that.

It was probably one of two things - either it took the tig some time to adjust to its new home, water, and non-live diet or it was fed live before you got it (or you might have given it a wrong impulse by offering it live danios right away).

When my piraiba was 2.5', it killed a 1.5' tig in a 4500 gal.

Our four silver arowana have been quite fine with two VATF for a couple of years now in the same 4500 gal. Currently the aros are 2.5'-3' and the VATF are between 1.5' and 2'.

With Asians or Australians, things might be different.

Hi everyone, need a little bit more advise. He’s doing really well, slamming bloodworm and other small frozen foods everyday, obviously that won’t sustain him much longer though and I read on another thread that salt is bad for them especially when small? A lot of people say use tilapia but I cannot find anything other than pellets that he won’t eat! o_O So my question is would something like rainbow trout or salmon etc be good for him or is it to fatty? Any other suggestions that will be good and hopefully available in the uk?

If hes eating pellets dont stress feed him pellets. Quality pellets. The shrimp tilapia debate just depends. If hes eating pellets I wouldn't be worried at all.

I can’t get him eating pellets and he’s getting skinny and I know they’re quite delicate when smaller that’s why I’m looking into other options so I can get a decent amount of weight and a bit more size on him before I try again with the pellets, proabably when he goes in the bigger tank.

My misunderstanding. I thought you meant he was taking pellets. I would get him onto tilapia. I lean on that side over shrimp for small tigs. My 18 19 inch tig I feed pellets loaded shrimp. But I feel when small tilapia is better. Even at mines size in would prefer ot to eat pellets ot tilapia loaded but is what it is.

Could not find tilapia anywhere but got him some basa (pangasius) fillets and chopped it up, I’ll let you know if he eats it later

Try shrimp. Makes sure your cutting ut small enough.
When my tigs small I would dive up a few pieces turn off the lights toss it in 20 30 monster scoop out uneaten food. Could always tell they are since they have small belly.
