My Tiny EBJD's

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Actually the Bala shark is smaller than the ebjd. It wasn't my fault at all. All my water parameters were good. Just these fish are very very fragile. All the rest of my fish are doing great except for the ebjd. I am really pulling for this one to go through. Today was the first time in 3 days that he actually came up to the top and eat a little bit of flakes. But I can see ich on him right now. All the rest of my fish don't have it except the ebjd. I am going to treat the tank and cure it

You have a bala shark that is less than an 1" in a 120 gallon, interesting. What else do you have in there? Anyways if your fish does have ICH add salt and raise the temp to 88-90 degrees. Best cure for ICH works every time.

MY EBJD's are doing fantastic. Eating like pigs snatching blood worms from fish much bigger than them. Looking forward to watching these guys grow.

Go easy on the blood worms. I've read too much protein is not good for them.

That is good to know thanks. I do flakes & pellets mix then alternate blood mysis shrimp and blood worms after they have eaten the flakes and pellets. I have several other fish in the tank as well so they aren't getting it all. Do you think that is to much. Should I do the frozen food every other day?

I only feed blood worms about once a week, but I also only have 2 other fish in with my EBJD, so he gets the majority of what I feed them. I would ask at your LFS and see what they think. I know mine has helped me immensely over the years.

I think will cut down the frozen food to 2 or 3x a week, blood worms 1 day shrimp the next. I read more on the subject and to much protein can cause bloat. What do you feed yours? My LFS is pretty good. But with EBJD's I feel like their guess is as good as mine as many people don't have success with them. That is why I like to hear from people that have them.

I also heard skinned Peas where good for these guys.

This strain has always been some if the strongest and had the best body shape. Although I never was a fan of the colors in the end. Looks like they pull more from the Normal JD side of the pool. Either way thats one strong awesome ebjd male and great for breeding. OP enjoy yours.
It looks great and I always love them when they are small.

THANKS. I actually got him because he looked more like a regular jack LOL. I have passed up on EBJDs for years because i dont like the blue EBJDs with the ugly faces, funny shaped bodys and veiltails. When i saw this one i had to get it because i could tell it was much different. I have one other i like. The rest ill probably cull because they are starting to look like the ones i dont like. Already feed one to my gar.

Greetings, I just got back into fish keeping and got a JD. I use to own a oscar in college and decided to try this instead. Unfortunately when I got mine from the lfs he also came with ICH. I did a salt and temperature treatment and hes fine now and about three inch's. The only hardship is he bullied a geo I had added to the tank, the day I had mentioned to the lfs he wasn't showing signs of aggression to his dither friends. Geo didn't make it so I won't bother trying to stock the tank anymore. I really enjoy having him.

Congrats on the JD. Good job curing the ICH. Sorry about the GEO.
