My turn for some help.

I still can not get pics of the vent. They are getting stressed. I will try again tomorrow. I filled up an empty 90 gallon for the exiles. they are getting along just fine. Now that every one is out of the tank they all seem to be keeping to themselves next to their respective breeding locations...Would you guys stop the RD and the FH from breeding? I will not sell the fry and even if they did make fry they impo would be god ugly. I am contemplating ending all breeding until the bigger tanks are at my home :) Thanks for the help and anything is something just let me know what you think. Thanks guys :)

The mystery fish is just a flowerhorn, no way to tell what the mixed genetics are. It appears to be male, as there is no dark blotch in the dorsal fin.

Red devils CANNOT be sexed by the presence or lack thereof of a nuchal hump. It could very well be a female.

I can't tell squat from the blurry, dark vent photos.

Can you advise me on making them better.

Photography lessons?

You're not going to get better photos without something like a macro lens. Better lighting would be a start.

No one asked you for lessons.....I just asked if you knew a handy tip. I will try the light and thanks for the input, and I have seen large lumped female RD's as well...

I think he meant "photography lessons" as an answer to your question, "Can you advise me to make them any better?"

You know, like, "Hey how can I make my pictures better?"

"I dunno, photography lessons maybe?"

But I agree with the majority here since I had a breeding pair of red devils and didn't know which was male or female. I thought the bigger was the male so I kept it. Even had a bigger nuchal hump than the other, but it turned out to be a female.

So yes the female red devils can have that nuchal hump, but its much much more rare for flowerhorn females to lack a dorsal spot.

Mystery fish, FH of some sort. If you compare the vent openings between the two fish, the males should be smaller, therefore making the females the larger.
Definitely have seen female RDs with nice nuchals.
