The white base is not allowing the "redness' to surface properly. A dark base is usually preferred for reds.
As for shrimps/market prawn feeding to make the fish more red, I wont buy too much into it for there are farms in indo where they dont feed this to their reds yet they are red. End of the day it's genes, and for one I keep my reds almost 99% with superworms and other dead meat diet without market prawn yet their colouration is showing well.
