Tanning is a method used to darken the base color of arowanas. In red varieties in many cases this technique can turn orange colored aros into red colored aros. There are many ways to tan some are aggressive and other methods fairly simple. I prefer the simple less intense method, on a 6 foot tank I would use a 4 foot dual bulb normal t5 fixture with 10000 k bulbs. I would run these lights on the same timer as the over head light for about 12 hrs a day. As for your question as tanning a RtG, this I haven't tried, I have heard of people trying it to try to get their RTG to cross belly. This is where the scale definition continues under the belly of the aro. Crossed belly aros typicaly cross due to genetics rather than tanning.

Ok thanks for the info boydo, ive got dark sand and black background and one 4ft marine white light on at the moment so its quite a dark tank, what kind of lights are you using jake?

Steve

Cheers all, he's about 22" but huge set. 3 tubes, marine white, JBL colour and nan.
Maybe tan him in future. Not changing anything else as have leos which look good on white sand

Hi jake whats jbl and nan?

Steve

JBL is company that makes some of the best aquatic products ever, suprised you havent seen them in local shops. Nan light is a special light more for red aros. Would recommend a marine white which you already have but maybe bigger tube and a tropical or colour tube at the very least.

Ive seen jbl food,i think but not lights unless im not looking, also ive got another lamp on the tank but i think it makes it too bright so i only put one on,il try and get some full tank shots today and post them.
