You keep your lights on all night too? I am certain even though they don't sleep, fish needs a day/night cycle.

FYI, fish hates our bright aquarium light

This happened to me several years ago. I had to take all of the fish out and clean the gravel really well. I never had the problem again. I keep my lights 12 on 12 off.

sometimes putting a backround on will help with the algae buildup . It shelters the tank from natural sunlight which can wreak havoc time to time .

The only thing to be wary of when doing large water changes is not to reset the cycle of your filtration. Tap water with large amounts of chlorine can kill beneficial pretty quickly.

Turn filtration off, do large water change, treat tank with prime, turn filters back on. This is what I do and works peachy.

Or you can add a colony of daphnia when the light turns off..during the night they will eat algae and become live food for fishes in ghe morning..repeat few times and water will be clear :)
