The only thing to be wary of when doing large water changes is not to reset the cycle of your filtration. Tap water with large amounts of chlorine can kill beneficial pretty quickly.
not conditioning your tap water if on city water kill your fish, let alone your bio filters. prime the best stuff out there IMHO, dose for size of tank, not for amount of water replacing.

I have had the same problem befor I tryed no light for about a week and nothing it was still green. In that time I was doing 40-50% water changes every 2 nights. I ended up using the API algae destroyer I think its called or algae fix. It cleared up in 2 days and was crystal clear.

We're doing a water swap. Transferring water from the established 120 that the fish are from, so far seems to be working. I'll let you know if anything changes. We're thinking there isn't enough bacteria in the 90.
