My water turned black! help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
me too. The thing is...it wouldnt be that bad if it was natural, but it was my fault for not doing the right thing. I didnt know it would do this, but still. now hes swimming in a lot more than this s#!tty little 20 ga though. as much as it hurts me, I know hes better off.

We all made mistakes when we started out. I believe there's a 10 page or so thread about them noy yoo far from the front page. Sorry for your loss but you did learn a valuable lesson,, and the learning of the lessons never stops.

I am sorry to hear about this loss. I just wanted to say carbon is more of a hastle then its worth It clogs fast; and servers no point other to remove meds. After removing my carbon, I can go months between cleaning, with no side effects.

yea, ive learned a lot lately. that fish was the reason i joined here but its legacy will live on. I added my mistake to that thread and im sure it wont be my last, but i hope no more are this costly. This one hurt.

nfored: the carbon is out now. I think im going to put some pot scrubbies between the filter sponge and the bio max, but you are right about it not doing much. I never noticed a difference with it

Carbon is chemical filtration. Its not nearly as important as the others. But it also doesnt hurt to have it.

I know you made a mistake and arent happy about it, but its not entirely your fault, you had good intentions. You now know what mistake you made and learned from it. But always make sure that newly added water is treated prior to addign it to your tank. Water from the tap is filled with all kinds of junk. When I do changes I add checmicals to my bucket and mix it around, and I try to have the temp around what the temp is in the tank. It sometimes can be more crucial than this though. Sometimes theres softness/hardness and PH you have to be aware of. Soem fish can tolerate some difference, but others are very sensitive to changes. The good thins is most common fish are pretty hardy and can tolerate some difference.

yea, i know i had good intentions, i just wish i would have spent the 1.99 on thet de-chlor a few days before. I used to have some but when i ran out i did 25% water changes and it never had any problems, but thesres a huge difference in 25% and 90%.

Thanks for the support guys. The search for a better tank will continue and hopefully ill get one big enough to keep a tsn or another channel. Im still in the MCL though with my little channel :)

Sorry about your loss, just remember to clean your sponge in from the water that you cyphon from the tank during a water change.

Spend a few bucks and buy yourself a quality water conditioner such as Prime or Novaqua.

I run two AC110's in my 75g, one with carbon and one with additional bio-media.
