I posted when I first purchased the boat around Thanksgiving but I decided Id start a new thread and update it as I progress. Also it would be a great opportunity for me to get tips or suggestions from a fresh perspective!

looks like a good project. :)
im redoing a john boat but havent worked on it in a while tho. :irked:
its not a john boat you would think of :naughty:
it has many of my diy twists.
what it is is im turning a john boat into a mini bass boat.
i posted pics before, thought of showing it off in its own thread but never did.
pm me or i will watch to see if ya need help. :)

Start with the trailer.......20's!! lol...

Actually, I would have it bead blasted. Then you could repaint it and re-wire it.

Then, figure out how to get the cooler built in, then build around that.

Go ahead post up some pics here.

I have a pretty good idea what Im going to do;

1. Deck and carpet the boat from the middle seat forward.

2. Mount a cooler between the middle and front seat and have it as flush with the deck as possible with a portable areator to use as a livewell or just a place for beer.

3. Red/Green and white lights so I can fish legally at night, also may add some accent lighting in the boat so I dont have to use a flashlight.

4. Replace all wood on boat.

5. Sand and paint trailer.

6. Control panel for electronics (livewell, lights, depth finder).

I have a 10HP '56 Evinrude and a 28lbs thrust minnkota and I just bought a new Hummingbird 525 fishfinder.

Use those LED Christmas lights for accent lights. If you line the inside edge of the boat they'll give plenty of light and won't take much power at all.
Good idea on that one!

You mean lights like youd wrap around your Christmas tree? Sounds like a good idea but would be a pain the ass to mount flush into the deck every little light. I am for sure going to use LEDs though to save battery.

Another thing you might consider is cold cathode tubes. IIRC, the 12" ones only consume 4w. That's more than LED, but may be brighter.

What i did with my john boat:
ripped 2x4 in half, used these to frame out bottom of boat, placed 1/2" treated plywood on top of frame, covered with outdoor carpeting( to reduce vibrations and noise...
did this between the middle seat and rear of boat
the front part we framed it out and made a cargo hold out of it and it doubles for you to stand/sit on.

Removed the seats, had to drill out the rivets. Also removed the wood on the transom. As you can see there are these brackets. Im trying to decide if I could just use those, from the middle seat forward as a basis of support for my deck. I will add extra support just not 100% sure yet on how yet. Suggestions?

Rallysman, learn me on them cold cathode tubes as I have no clue what they are!

Next weekend Im going to finish the trailer so the following weekend Ill take her out on the water and inspect for any possible leaks, then the next weekend I can start decking her out! :headbang2

Oh I think Ive thought of a name..I dont know if anyone is familiar with country but there is a song by Brad Paisley about a man going fishing even though his wife is threatening to leave him if he does...the hook is, "Im gonna miss her..." I figured itd be a good name with as much time I hope to spend on it!
