Avoid handling him to much, he obviously doesant like it. Yup its musk, seen it many times. Do you use a good pellet food? Reptomin is great.

I will add that to my list. I'll get it next trip into town.

What did I miss? Releasing = Bad?

Well... Yeah. I could go on but it would be the same old "blah this blah that"

that depends...he rescued it and got it back to health..if it was not with any other animals and was released in the same area....its not like a fish tank where tropical diseases can be introduced, good job on the save and returning him to his home^_^

>:[ The turtle was in his care for long enough that I'm not sure it would be able to properly be able to care for itself. Plus if you take a sick/dieing/soon to be dead animal out of it's environment and put it back in you are damaging the species gene pool. If it was going to die than it should have, not to be cold hearted. If I saw a dieing turtle on the road I would take it home and heal it up and keep it as a pet in a slit second.

I will not argue farther.

Just because a turtle smells, does not mean that it has dirty water. Turtles can smell horrible when picked up if kept in crystal clear water. Truth is most turtles love clean water, but hate clear water.

To the OP, I'd say keep the little guy.

I believe this is called rehabbing or nursing an animal back to health. It is done quite a bit. A lot are released when healthy.

How is this damaging a species gene pool?

Turtle would be fine if released most likely. It will however face all the dangers of the wild. If it gets dropped off in a big lake, trust me, he is just going to swim off and know what to do pretty soon.
