i also hear GE Silicone II works?

GE Silicone II will not work because it has some anti mold agent that is harmful to fish I think...... I used GE Silicone I to replace a support brace in my tank and it has worked well. Also The driftwood I have in my take is 7 foot by 2 foot and it still has not sunk after 3 months. I have a 1x2 wedged between a one of the support braces on the top of the tank and the driftwood ans It has been holding it down. The other small pieces I have about 2 inches by 2 foot in my other tanks sank within one day.

will aquarium silicone stick very well?

you mean
GE Silicone II?

I don't know because I don't know what Kind it is. The stuff they have here at our petco is not worth it. It is really expensive for not a lot of silicone. And It depends on what the surface are that your trying to silicone is. I would just go with GE I because its 3 bucks and for sure works and If you get a rock with a rough surface and put a good bit of silicon it should work good. I tried to silicon a chip bag clip/clamp to a smooth rock, ( its was to hold cucumber slices under water so my plecos could much on the cucumber) and I let to dry for a day or to and it immediately came off the clamp. But, I have heard that silicone will not stick to acrylic so I'm guessing that's why it didn't stick to the clamp, Because it was plastic. SO I just think it will not bond to any kind of plastics, which acrylic is a type of plastic. haha sry if that was kind of confusing.

let me know if that helped out any?

Get some eggcrate and use fishing line to tie the wood to the crate. Put it in the tank and spread the substrate and rocks over the eggcrate...

The wood piece I have is huge... you can see thr rocks that it is "built" up on. I tied it to some eggcrate and left enough room to stuff some rocks underneath and around it.
