I use tetra aquasafe and let the water sit in 200l containers overnight just so aquasafe has time to effect. I think by broblem was that adding aquasafe during water change wasn't enough and clorine was killing My bacteria wich caused an ammonia spike.
never use that brand before... but for anti cholrine.. i usually just fill up the tank and pour the anti chlorine at the same time
maybe you can consider using seachem prime or seachem safe?

Those are not sold where i live.. i have heard alot of good things about aquasafe but always looking for better options
