  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
not a very pretty lookin fish though, Oddball....but the head part kinda looks like an african aro. no resemblance to aros or arapaima that can be readily observed though

ofcourse not Mei:irked: :D ....i think it was pushed to extinction slightly after the asian arowana aquarium trade rush, though who knows in some remote river systems they might still exist. it was overfished as a food fish even if its flesh value was just moderate, the aquarium rush on asian arowanas was the last blow. and to start with, the Philippine asian aro (golden&green) was not that huge compared to malaysia and indonesia. i have a map of southeast asia here that shows territories where asian aros exist (endemic)....and used to exist....

sorry, i meant....
and to start with, the Philippine asian aro (golden&green) population was not that huge compared to malaysia and indonesia.

honestly this topic has been tweeking up my curiousity for quite some time now. so i gathered up some arowana pics and showed them to some of the people in the town where im from and guess what?.....they recognized the green aro (too bad not the gold too)! and they even have a local name for it that i didnt quite get coz it sounded kinda weird....some of them argued that theyve still been seing these fishes, though not large ones. i guess i'll still have to see for myself and verify. fishes tend to look alike once theyve been displayed in the market...LOL

Oddball your intelligence never surprises me.. It sometimes frustrates me though, mainly as i would like half that knowledge.. LOL.... Gimme 20 more years..... LOL... Damn i better start buying more books LOL

Ask them here they see it..It would be cool if you could get a wild caught Phil. arowana...

will try my best and get some results, though i wont expect anything really soon. cross your fingers.....:headbang2

I think the specimen pertaining to the record found in the philippines
was found in mindanao, philippines
Its in the DENR record but nothing follows
most probably native filipinos ate the golden arowana to extinction
