Not a cicada.

It's definitely a Beetle Grub.
He's a real beauty!
You can keep these guys as pets.
You keep them in a plastic container with decayed vegetation(i.e. rotting hardwood tree) and feed them dry cat or dog food. Clean out the poop weekly and watch out for mites. Then they will change into adults.

Tried that....

He died the day I put him in the tank.:(
He just wasn't acting right. I think he was sick or hurt.

Wrong set up.
That's for an adult.
I mean you would have to go into the woods, find a rotten hardwood tree,
use a screwdriver and collect the rotten innards.
Make sure it doesn't smell rotten or have any fungus growing on it which uses up it's nutrients.
Then you soak it for a day or 2 to get rid of any unwanted pests.
After that, you put it out on a tarp to sun dry, then crush it up till it's pulp.
Then get a tupperware container, drill a couple air holes and fill it up with this soil.(make sure the soil is moist but not to wet. The grub will tunnel the soil and eat this soil. You can feed it the dry dog/cat food every couple days (protine should be above 30%, puppy food and tender vittles works best)but be sure to remove any uneaten food because it will mold and attract mites. If you get a mite infestation, Remove the grub and microwave the soil. Let it cool, and then return the grub.

lol, that's all?

Well this guy died a few hours after I put him in the tank. Next time I'll do that.
Or maybe I'll just let him go. The reason I took this one is because he wasn't acting right.

LOL,
Yea it's a lot of work, but so is keeping fish.
If he wasn't acting right then he wasn't going to make it.
Was he having something that looked like a seizure?

He was curling up and stretching, curling up and stretching. He spit out some black goo too.

Trauma.
My guess is that a bird probably was after him but he got away some how or fell out of a tree while being picked at.
He definitely wasn't going to make it.
You don't usually fid these guys just walking around.
