Name This Fish

lol that's funny.

FH for sure. Def. No GT or JD whatsoever, common misconception. This is a ZZMalau Flowerhorn or ZZ X GM whichever you prefer to call it. These kind of fish are generations of line breeding and cross breeding to get specific traits so it would be impossible to tell you it's exact genetic makeup. The majority of FH like this are a giant multi cross between Midas, Synspila, Texas, Trimac, Festae, Lyonsi, Blood Parrots (Midas X Syns.) and others. Breeding these fish at different times throughout the process will also yeild different results. For instance if you started with a simple flowerhorn and bred it with a synspila or BP you would get a FH called a Kamfa. Now a FH has Midas and Synspila in it already so breeding again with the BP strenghtens those specific Midas and Synspila genes. Breeding that again with a Tex for instance will increse the amount of Tex genes, and thus produce more pearls. Now it gets even more complicated to the point of near impossible recognition when you cross 2 different Types of FH because of the immense genetic makeup of each fish. This is one of the main reasons that FH are so expensive. Hope this has cleared something up for you. And IMO $120 is a fair price for that fish, especially since he appears to be growing a KOK (Nuchal Hump). The bigger the KOK the more valuable they become as well.

Doesn't seem to expensive to me either. He's also quite big. Here we have the same price for smaller FHs.

Really think its got some texas in it for sure.... but his other half I wouldn't have a clue.

Texas - Absolutely. Nearly all FH have Texas in them. More often then not H.Carpintis is preferred over H.Cyanoguttatas. This is where the "pearling" comes into effect. And essentially the more pearls or the larger the pearls the more influence of the Texas genes. It is very similar to breeding dogs. You keep the fish or dog with the desired traits and use that for breeding to strengthen those specific traits.

I'd say its a "RED TEXAS" I believe they are a hybrid which they cross a flowerhorn with a texas like BrynMichael stated.. If so i would say that $120 is a great deal because these fish are very hard to find and usually go for $150-$200 easy for just a few inches.. They have them for sale on aquascapes from time to time.. Here's a link to a video that they call a RED TEXAS and look like the same fish to me.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3UGbehg2PM

they have a flowerhorn fs at a lfs for $150. so i didn't think 120 was that bad

This fish is def. a FH and not a Red Texas. RT look totally different, you can even tell in the video you posted that it looks nothing like the one in this thread. RT are created from line breeding specifically KingKong Parrots or Blood Parrots and Herichthys Carpintis. A flowerhorn has both KKP and Texas genetics, however there are several other fish involved as well, whereas the RT is specifically BP X Carpintis.
