My girlfriend names all of my fish and whether I like the names or not, I always end up calling them that anyway...

Silver Arowana: Harry
Humerosa Ray: Daisy
RTGG: Dexter
8" Royal Pleco: Pleco Fantastic

She doesn't bother naming the small stuff lol.

When i was real young and just starting to get into fish were talking 6-7 years old i would name all of my parents tetras i all ways thought of them as mine so i would name them and sure enough they would die a short time later and i would be heart brocken same with the Reptiles my perants let me have ( thinking back i wouldn't of given them to me at that age :grinno: )

Now i only call the fish there common or Scientific name never give them people names Except for my leopard Gecko his/her name is max plus when you do have to part with your fish it makes it ezier

Only thing i would name would be mabye an Aussie lung fish or something that might out live me

I name all my fish:
Oscar-Brutus
Bandit-Mayan Cichlid
Blaze-Festae
Blade-Pleco
Cetiva-manganese

1 little silver unknown handmedown fish- James

The rest I haven't named just yet...

I named my Buttikoferi

Buttikoferi: Joey Buttikoferi (I was hoping to get a pair and name them Joey Buttikoferi and Amy FISHer)

My kids have named some of my other fish:

Turquoise Severum: Sargeant Severum
Spilurum: Bob
Jack Dempsey: Mr. Jack (although I think it's a female)
Nicarauguense: Nick Cichlid

Firemouths I no longer have: Senor and Freddie Firemouth

I don't name them but my 2 year old has named a few.

White Tiger Oscar - "Zoe" (Sesame Street)
Red Tiger Oscar - "Grovie" (That's how she prounced Grover from Sesame Street)
Turquoise Severum with Blue - "Ashie Fish" (Her name is Ashlynn)
Turquoise Severum with Red - "Sissy Fish" (She calls her sister Sissy)
Gold Severum w/dot on eye - "Sally" (Pixar's Cars)
Gold Severum w/dirty look - "Mater" (Pixar's Cars)
Senegal Bichir - "Dino" (My wife prodded her on this one)

The rest she calls by their common names.

After careful reconsideration, I'm not so sure "Chick" is a chick. Can anyone give any tell-tale signs of male or female without venting?
