Picked up couple of Festae two weeks ago. They are currently housed in my 3 footer. They will move to a bigger tank soon.

sorry to be the one to tell you this mate as you you have fallen into the same trap as many before you, your purchase is a urophalmus not festae similar and difficult to tell apart at a young age to the untrained eye, but you definately do not have festae there...

sorry

Thank you for the correct Id! I am for sure disappointed, I will get in touch with the importer and let him know as he is a very reputed guy.

Sorry you got shafted on your Festae.

Remember to look at the ocellus. On Festae, even from a juvenile stage, it should only be on the upper half of the tail. On Mayans, it's on the upper portion and goes down into the lower portion as well. Here's a few pic's of some of my previous Festae fry for comparison.

Make sure you don't ask for red terrors when you buy Festae. Asking for red terrors will often times get you Uros instead. I learned this the hard way before I finally received my Festae from an MFK member. Uros are nice fish though. They grow to be beautiful and strong cichlids in their own right. I just like Festae more.
