Got my female at the ACA in 2006, she was @ 2",(about the size of her daughter, above)
by Jan or Feb 2007 she was 8-9".
She's now close to/or at 12".
I find the more water changes I do, the faster they grow.

They spawn regularely but I always have to be on the watch for abuse.
Darth, are yours from the 2006 ACA too?

lol...yeah...that's pretty much true of any fish ;) the male that I had that outgrew the other 2 went from 2" to 4" in just a couple of months. I was feeding them pretty much exclusively foods from kensfish...cichlid pellets, freeze dried krill, freeze dried bloodworms etc.

I have a pair - about 10-11" each - in a 75g. They constantly mouth fight and have tubes down...but no actual spawning yet. Any triggers that have worked for others?

I've tried big, warm water changes...big, cool water changes...and lots of smaller water changes...heavy feeding...big flowerpots, small flowerpots, half flowerpots...Any ideas?

put on some Marvin Gaiye?!?

*I spelled it wrong on purpose* :P

It definitely works. My midas and festae that share the same divided 115 spawned withing 12 hours of each other.

My haits do the same stupid arguing with tubes down. I think my male's tube is down most of the time. He's a horny lil' bastage. They never do anything. Well he beats on her a bunch. If acestro's wasn't named Ike, I'd name mine that and his mate Tina.

I'm just waiting for him to sell that fish to me so I can give him two gf's to spawn through the grate with.

This might be worth a try Matt.
If they are acting like spawning is eminent, I won't do a water change for a week or 2, and then change the water perameters a bit by either doing a water change with rainwater, (or in winter), I have access RO, and mix about 50/50with tap. I believe that difference in conductivity and osmotic change, fire them up like it's rainy season on Hispaniola.

Mucho gracias~!

I'll give it a try...after I try the 90% water change technique...
