So I have a friend who called me up yesterday and says "Hey, you looking for another tank". I say "sure, what is it?" He says "a 10-15g hexagon" I'm was like cool... plus its free

Well he brought it over and I did some math. The walls are 6.25" each and the height is 12.5"... so by my math it's a 5.5g setup (someone double check my work please) I was going to decline it then I thought about the guy on here with the 2gal Fluval...

What can I keep in a 5.5g tank? I was thinking maybe a pistol shrimp and maybe a small Goby??? Also is there a skimmer out there that will fit it? It has a pump and light assemble (one piece hood thing) already on it. It will be a fowlr tank for the time being but I'm guessing the CF lights are junk for coral growth and I will need LED? Also what about circulation pumps?

I think it would be a cool desktop tank If I can set it up right. Any advice or thoughts would be nice

You could for sure keep a shrimp. Don't know about a goby.
They do make skimmers for nano tanks, just have to look around.
As for lighting, if you can find a powerful enough compact flourescent, it should be enough to keep some softies.
Just remember to keep an eye on water parameters as they can get out of whack quickly in a tank that small.

Yea definitely know that. I was looking some gobies are 1-1 1/2 inches.. i fig those might be ok???

I want a Citrinis goby...

Do they sell sand/aragonite is small bags? or just 10+ lbs?

Here are some pics of the tank. I took live rock from my main tank (replaced it with base rock) and have it in here to cycle. The tank is actually made by Marineland. Does anyone have a 50/50 Compact flourescent that could grow softies and maybe some hammer coral? Also i have the pump going to give the tank flow. Is there a super small powerhead I could get?

Stocking ideas? I was thinking a Citrinis Clown Goby, Helfrichi Firefish, and maybe a shrimp or 2...

Could I use an Aquaclear 10 power head for that tank? I haven't seen it in person but would something like that give enough water movement for coral?

I think i'm going to try the Coralife 50/50 CF bulb in the exsisting hood and try that with some softies...
