A friend of mine keeps his tanks cool by freezing bottles of water and dropping those in the tank, not pretty but works well

Exactly I wouldn't put any ice or anything like that in there I think its okay where its at hearing how other people keep their natives

Temps in the low 80's are ok for short periods of time, but I've seen enough evidence to know it can be bad long-term.
right next to it or over a foot away? if it's within a few inches, that will raise the temps in the cooler tank.
Its like a foot maybe a little less

The temp is like in the 70s now I did a 50% water change and just put cold water back in
