While mowing some fields I almost drove into a HUGE irrigation ditch that was obscured by weeds. Being a fish guy I went down to see what was up. Lo and behold, it was teeming with some fish that looked like a type of transparent rasbora, and some fish that had a orangish stripe thing going on. Thats not counting the literally thousands of tadpoles that there were. The water they were in was almost freezing to the touch, which makes this a hopefully very easy tank. Basically I'll prolly put them in a tank with tapwater, a filter and some sand and see what happens. These guys were living in a stream that had runoff from some idiots pond that he had dumped a bunch of fumagated plastic in so I'm pretty sure these fish can live in just about anything. And if the tadpoles are going to grow into the big toads That I think they will, I might sell them to a pet store. It was kinds like stumbling into a fish keeping goldmine.

Chances are the small fish are not game fish so I don't think it is as big of a deal. But it is still illegal to take. Some amphibians can be take but with a fishing license/permit I think. Also you can't sell any of this to the pet store. Majority of pets stores know and follow the law too.

sounds like a cool little project. go for it

I definatly would have grabbed some if my foreman hadnt come down to check on me at lunch time. He hates even a legally required 30 minute lunch to be 'wasted'. I chalk all his anger to his ghastly toadish wife.
Hopefully tomorrow after work cuz we get to leave early. I was able to see a third kind of fish. It came up to an algae bloom and nibbled on it. It looked like a silver bowie knife (not the fish). The striped ones look boney. They seem have the raised spines that ctemopenas have.
And there was zero planning involved in this. Saw the fish, have an empty tank, done. No time to look up laws anywho. 60-72 hour work week.
Totallllllly knew about those laws. Haha not. So the tadpoles Ive been taking from the puddles at the end of our driveway for 9 years were actually illegal? I've been breaking laws before I knew how.

It would be great if more people would learn the laws before they plan something like this...

It would be great to explain the laws to people instead of being rude about it on a public forum.
The problem with this place like most people have stated is that it has strayed away from the i'll help you out mentality and more into the i'm smarter than you mentality and here's why.
