personally green_fox, I take inverts and stuff from the gulf all the time. recently, i even collected fish eggs that i hatched and plan to release in the future. I take blue crabs, anemones that i can find, hermits, fairy shrimp, some kind of minnows, um...once caught a horseshoe crab that was about 3 inches long...
I dont have as much experience as some people, but imho, i do it all the time, right in front of people who are with marine studies (biologists and ecologists) and they say that it should not damage the ecosystem as long as you do not take endangered or threatened species of animals.
Just please make sure you do not overstock...once made that mistake, trust me, it isnt worth taking the chance.
