I definitely want to keep Natives and I would never release an aquarium fish into the wild. I will have a much larger tank within the next 3-6 months so if any of the fish grow too large I should have somewhere to put them.

And ok, I will check with the local DNR and see what I can find out about the collection of wild fish. As for tank decor, I intend to scour the woods/creek behind my house once the snow melts for anything interesting. Out of curiosity, what about purchasing shiners, shad, other baitfish from a local bait shop? Would this be recommended or would those fish pose too much of a disease threat? I just can't seem to find a good local source for native fish and with it being the middle of winter I'm open to ideas...
If i were you id get a group of darters from BT Darters or some Blue spotted sunfish, from maybe Sachs Aquaculture, or maybe even try to find some Orange Spotted sunfish, all stay small, with my favorite being the Darters.

That's the plan right now, small sunfish. I'm not a big fan of darters or minnows but I'm a big fan of the sunfish family. As soon as the tank is cycled I'm going to order one banded sunfish and two bluespotted sunfish from Sachs Aquaculture.

Oh and I finished the aquascaping on the tank so here it is in it's final form. Honestly my camera sucks and these pictures don't do it justice, but it's the best I can do. All I need to do now is wait, wait and wait some more and it will be ready for the sunfish.

Your tank will be great for sunfish. I like the blue spotteds .I think Sachs sells M/F pair .
I know nothing about their breeding but if they breed in caves you could add a small flower pot.

I keep dollar suns outside and they do seem to like the pots esp the male.
