Sorry dude. Ill pass on this one. Reaserch like this leaves little time to enjoy the hobby an when it comes down to it you wont have changed enything afterall.

My point... Some people just need to step up regarding their gar tank.

The End..

i was at least sort of with you/following what you meant until these statements. either they aren't coming across clearly due to forum-syndrome, or you're just way off base on both statements--

Dude, I never thought of using a Dremel! All I had to work with was a sharp knife. Nothing like cutting through bone and brain with brute force alone... Got quite messy sometimes (I've never done this on gar, only saltwater fish).

this is what Richard was referring to...

...just the first of this series, i'll start a separate thread to continue/complete it somewhere or another (when time allows). it gets progressively more graphic :) --

This is great John, looking forward to this. I was on a daytrip in the glades some years back. This is a very nice swamp area.

See now it is getting exithing

:headbang2

I can take day time footage but like solomon states. Gars habbit is usually the nasty habbitat that you dont want in your aquaria. Sure the woods nice, but they like dark water. Only in the rivers or lakes does it seem the gars are in the clear water. But I found them here most abundant in the swamps and marshes. I will get some footage, this weekends will most likely be night time footage with spot lights. Ive been wanting too film this for awhile now. Thanks, John

several people throughout the entire forum actually do both research and hobby-related work...so keep in mind you are among people with a variety of backgrounds.

just because you don't want to learn more through research and just concentrate on the hobby (there is nothing wrong with that) doesn't mean you should make comments such as "research in the end not changing anything at all".

believe it or not a lot of research goes into the aquarium hobby, from breeding fishes to formulating appropriately nutritional diets...this is just another facet of research crossing over. take it or leave it, but no need to look down on it--

Research makes the hobby. With out it disease, collecting everything would be worse off. A true hobbiest researches his/her fish. At least most do. The research brings the fun into the hobby and the knowledge and help, a long with tons of advise from the professionals.

As Solomon said, you are forgetting that not everybody is just a hobbyist.

Your university comment is especially disconcerting as many of the people in this very thread are doing extensive work in universities with gar and other fish...
