"Nature Aquarium" Riparium in 15-gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Here is a shot of the leak test. It looks OK so far. I do need to shim up the right side a bit it looks about 1/8" lower than the left.

I got a few plants into the tank last night. The dwarf A. gramineus is really a great plant and perfect for a nano setup like this one. Sometimes Acorus are a bit tricky and resist growing, but these plants are doing well and already have good root development inside of the planter cup.

Notice that the cup is filled to more than 1/2 full with hydroton. It seems this plant does better with a coarse-grained substrate. As is true for Anubias plants, it is also important for the creeping rhizome to be on top of the substrate. It will rot if buried down in the gravel.

This is looking good, Hydrophyte! Say, have you considered adding a small Eleocharis to the setup? I think their dark, vertical, cylindrical leaves would look great next to the lighter, grassier Acorus.

I think that you are totally right. However, I already have a plant in mind to work as a more vertical grassy element, "baby panda bamboo" (Pogonatherum crinitum). This stuff is real nice and I have some already established in a couple of planters.

I really should try to get some Eleocharis. It would be great to get one that grows to 9" or so high.

Where could I buy some of those planters not online. Do they sell them in stores or are they specialty order items. I have no way to buy them online was just wondering if they can be purchased at lfs or any place else.

That online store that sells them takes payment with PayPal. Do you not have a PayPal account?

It looks as though there are just two walk-in stores that might have them pretty soon, one in the Gainesville, FL area, and the other in Milwaukee, WI.

I got all of the riparium plants into there. Here's the whole planting as I have it now.

This is subject to change--I will probably move the plants around some. It definitely has that "just planted" look, but it should start to shape up as the plants grow in. The plants will also cover that foam and plastic as they get bigger.
