In the next week or two I am going to buy a 55 gallon rectangular tank. I have a 29g with african cichlids and wanted to get some ideas of some fish to stock my 55g. I want some medium or large fish with color and are kind of hardy. I have about $100 to spend on fish. I need ideas quick cause I am going on vacation pretty soon (32 days).

Well you would have a lot of choices. I would say sp. that stay under 10".

You could get anything in the cryptos family:convicts,cutteri,hrp,panamensis.for SA try blue acaras that includes a few types,or keyholes

Geos are nice in a tank that size as they grow really slow there is a ton of variety but IMO the red head geo are the nicest looking in terms of color and are available at many lfs.

Would Severums and Chocolates not get too big?
I think Keyholes would be nice and they are supposed to be relatively peaceful.
