Ive always loved aros, my buddies got a 2' one and always watching him as made me want one. So i ended up getting 1 about 3 days ago. hes Only with a mosaic gar, the lfs told me they might have problems. But i have seen any yet. I got home today and the aros fin where it meets at the end of the body looks all beat up. like theres a couple missing. It doesnt seem to be the gar becuz ive been watching them for 2 hours now and they both seem to be fine. The aro is still acting like he has been. VERY active, happy, i just dont know wut could have happen. My only thought is he swam by the power head and it sucked him in a lil. Should i get rid of the power head? will the grow back?

Gars are generally ok with arowanas. they do better with the australian arowanas. but if the gar is alot bigger than the arowana I would remove him. also baby arows are very fragile so try to keep them with very docile fish. Also how big is your tank? it could be a space issue. I doubt it was the powerhead but it is possible. It could also be the quality of your water. did you let it cycle properly? whats your pH?

In my tank, my arowana is aggressive towards the gar...not the other way around. He gives them a good chomp on the a** when they get in his swimming space, nothing more.

Good luck.

If there are any tiny open spaces he may have been trying to jump... maybe gar did not do it but stressed the little baby and he may have wanted to find greener pastures.. keep all holes..even the smallest ones taped up.. arows are jumpers.. and eventually you also need a weight on top of tank ..just in case he jumps..

No the gar is not a lot bigger, they r both very small. the gar is about 10" and the aro is maybe 8". Ive been keeping my eye on them since last post also, and nothing. The ph level is at 7.2. i have them in a 40g breeder. But not worry anyone becuz i have my 90g cycling through right now. But they should be fine in this tank for awhile still. The only reason i question the power head, is becuz when i started this tank up i used some blood fin tetras, granted they r ALOT smaller but 1 did get sucked up by the back side through the slits in it and spit out by the propeller. The aro does swim behind the power head a lot too.

then you may have answered your own question.. turn it down a bit if you can adjust it ... if not try just using an airstone until he is stronger and bigger.

Will grow back tho right??
should grow back as long as it was not ripped out at root.. keep water pristene condition.. and add a little Aquarium salt to ward off infection and he should do well..

ahh **** guys i feel like an *******. i havent done a full test on the water in about 2 weeks, my nitrates r at almost 3ppm and nitrites r at about 10 ppm, im going to go bring this guy n the gar over to my buddies.
